Why Did We Choose the Topic of Inclusion?
Aside from the fact that inclusion is a mandated movement by the Alberta Government, both of us feel that it is a concept that must be incorporated into our future classrooms. Throughout our teaching careers we hope to create safe, caring and cohesive classrooms that ensure everyone feels as if they belong. Because we both feel that inclusion is essential to the success of a positive classroom environment, we decided to research some of the ethics related to this topic. As future teachers we wanted to ensure we knew our rights and responsibilities when caring for students with a variety of needs. Through this research we hoped to open our eyes to the different perspectives in regards to this topic and gain suggestions on how to create a more inclusive classroom. Another reason why we chose this topic is because of the diverse nature of the nation in which we live. Canada is considered to be a highly multicultural nation where everyone is accepted for who they are. We hope to gain some insight as to how this translates into our classrooms as well gain a deeper understanding as to what changes still need to occur.
